4 C’s to Create Your Calm at Home
Sister,
Thank you for stopping by, I am so happy you are here in this space!
Speaking of spaces, lets chat…..
In the hustle and bustle of life our home or space we dwell in should be a safe haven, a peaceful place where we feel like our mind, body, and spirit can connect, unwind, relax, and renew in energy…. Can I get an AMEN!
Did you know that the space we dwell in most often can have a direct impact on our health and well-being? It’s important to tune into what makes you feel happy, aligned, relaxed, and at peace girl.
There are many aspects to a space that can help create that calm haven that feels like home sweet home. So, to keep it simple, I have come up with 4 tips to help you design your haven into a peaceful, happy place:
4 C’s to create your calm:
01. Clear | Finding a home for the “stuff” in our space is a great place to start when creating our peaceful space or spot. When we simply de-clutter, clean, and organize our space it allows room for our mind and energy to flow more aligned in peace.
02. Color | Color can directly affect us emotionally, physically, and psychologically and when it comes to the wall color or the colors that surround us it’s important to ask yourself what colors make you feel peaceful or happy! This will be unique to everyone! Personally, I love soft colors like neutrals or pastels. Natural colors like blue, green, pink, yellow, violet, grey, and whites are all colors that can help impact our calm space.
03. Cozy | Textures, lighting, smells, sound, and life can all help create that cozy, calm space.
Textures: softer textures like linen, wool, velvet, sheepskin, knits, and silk all can have a calming effect on the mind and body. This could look like a cozy sheepskin throw at the end of the bed or soft velvet chair, or linen curtains. Folding in peaceful textures will help create that peaceful, restful space to the touch and eye.
Lighting: mood and lighting also go hand in hand and when we are creating our peaceful haven, lighting that is natural, soft, and warm will be most helpful.
Personally, my bathroom is a peaceful space and I love to dim the chandelier light that hangs over the tub and light a candle when I take a bath or shower at the end of the day. This simple shift from bright light to cozy light can instantly change the feel and mood to the bathroom or room which results in the feeling of calm.
Smells: Did you know that scents bypass the thalamus and go straight to the brain’s olfactory space or smell center?! Scientifically there is evidence that smells can elicit emotion. When creating a peaceful space scents that typically aid in a calm happy feeling are lavender, vanilla, sage, jasmine, rosemary, citrus, and peppermint. When it comes to smell or scents, often loaded with unhealthy perfumes or fragrances, we do want to keep in mind to opt for candles or oils or any form of scent where the ingredients are clean, safer, and pure as possible. Toxic fragrances can often lurk in candles, oils, or scented products so I highly recommend reading the label of the product.
Sound: A noisy space can feel stressful so when it comes to creating that calm space sound is important to consider. Music or natural sounds scientifically have been found to calm the autonomic nervous system, the endocrine system, and reduce the psychological stress response. Music is unique to everyone, but when it comes to calming the space, classical, soft music, or sounds of nature have been shown to impact and lower stress response.
Life: Bringing “life” into a space like plants or pets can also help create that “chill” vibe in your space. Along with improving our indoor air quality, research suggests that plants or nature can help connect our brain to nature creating a more balanced, peaceful feeling around us.
04. Connect | I once was given the best advice from a designer when it comes to your home or haven and it stuck with me.
What we put around us in the place we dwell most needs to have a connection in our life. The urge to buy “stuff” to fill or decorate a space quickly is natural but it’s important that we also include décor that means something special to us, a personal connection to whatever it might be.
An example would be an object or piece from your childhood, vacation, or a special memory that connects that space to you in a personal unique way. This will help create that peace, calm, and happy space when we have meaning or good memories around us that help us feel “at home” and aligned in our space.
Our personal home or space is unique and special, it carries a tremendous ability to heal us, calm us, and bring us joy! When we tap into our space and create our “haven” that speaks to our soul or heart THAT is healthy living! I hope you find this helpful and I hope this inspires you to create your healthy “haven” that feeds your mind, body, and spirit daily!
Thank you for landing here, I would love for you to come back soon sister
